Wild hogs…………

August 27, 2007

Ok, so it was weekend and I felt lazy.  All I wanted to do was relax.  What better way than watching an entertaining movie.  I’ve seen the trailer for Wild Hogs.  I even happened to watch the episode that Oprah featured the movie and made a mental note of “I must see this movie”.  After all, John Travolta is part of the cast and that gives me enough reason to want to see the movie.  Off I go to the video store and was pretty upset when I had to book the movie because they didn’t have any copies left.  I waited a week with bated breath and couldn’t wait to finally get my hands on the dvd.  Man oh man oh man.  If you haven’t seen it yet(sorry, I am normally the last one to get to see the good ones) do yourself a favour and get it!!!!! It is not the best movie you will ever see, but it sure is one of the funniest.  I think what makes the movie work for me is the combination of cast members. Tim Allen and Martin Lawrence are known for their comic antics.  They are at their best in this movie.  William H Macy has donned the hat of comedian absolutely perfectly.  In my eyes, he is the star of this movie.  Add John Travolta looking super sexy as a hard core biker and you have a winning recipe.  Big thumbs up to everyone who was involved with the making of this movie.

I loved it.  I can’t remember when last I laughed as much as I did while watching this movie.

Drooling over Johnny

June 11, 2007

That is exactly what I found myself doing last night.  Good old M-net(pay channel in SA) broadcast Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead man’s Chest last night.  I have seen it before on DVD, but I just couldn’t resist watching it again.  I simply loved it.  My two little ones were spellbound.  They couldn’t take their eyes off the screen and they loved the “undead monkey” and the talking parrot.  I simply just loved Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow.  What a nice way to relax on a Sunday evening?  Of course this was followed by a nice long relaxing bubble bath.  Did I dream of Captain Jack?  Well of course I did………

I have wanted to see this movie for such a long time. I read good and bad reviews about it, but being the individual that I am, I thought it best to judge for myself. I must admit that I was skeptical after some of the reviews, but I enjoyed it!!! I am not looking for Oscar winning performance or anything like that. I want pure enjoyment from a movie. That is my main criteria when watching a movie. This movie has breathtaking scenes. Yes, there is the predictable love story but who cares. This movie is about the love between a man and his dogs. The evidence of the bond between Paul Walker and the dogs are there. I cried like a baby. I actually left the lounge and stood outside. I couldn’t bare to think or even try to understand what those dogs had to endure. Paul Walker isn’t the best actor but I believe that he was the right guy for this film. I give this movie a total thumbs up because I felt like I was there with them. I felt the cold and when the ice cracked, I quickly looked to see if I was in a safe spot. So, call me a softie or call me a bleeding heart, but I will watch this movie again. If you still want to see the movie, don’t read further!!!!

One of my favorite scenes in the movie was where the lead dog Maya said goodbye to Old Jack who was busy dying after being tied up for 15 days. He didn’t have the strength to break the chains like the others did. She gingerly licked him and then walked away…

The character that stole my heart was Max. He was the one that lead all the surviving dogs back to their base after Maya was injured and in so doing ensuring their rescue. He is a beautiful animal. Even though this was a Disney production, it is a movie that families will enjoy. It was wonderful being able to watch a movie without profanity, sex, violence or any of the normal “Blockbuster” ingredients.
